WHO CAN GET Croatian citizenship by descent?
The answer isn’t that simple. As defined in Article 11 of the Croatian Citizenship Act, if you have an ancestor who was born in any part of the territory of contemporary Croatia (no matter what the name of the country at the moment of their birth was, e.g. Yugoslavia), who emigrated from Croatia, you can get Croatian citizenship by descent. However, it is important that the emigration happened before 1992, and that your ancestor emigrated outside the borders of the countries Croatia was once a part of.
The good news is that this right is conferred to your spouse and underage children as well, and you can all apply at the same time. This right also applies to people of Croatian nationality who emigrated from other countries inside the former federal states.
